Bearing the Maharaja's logo of the flying swan with the wheel of Konark, Air India is a government-owned airline offering a mix of economy, business and first-class services to its passengers.


It is owned by Air India Limited and has the following subsidiaries: Air India Express, Alliance Air and Airline Allied Services. In total, the company employs over 20,000 staff.


As such, Air India is also the largest international carrier of India. While its headquarters are based in New Delhi, the airline also operates from its secondary hub, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, which is located in Mumbai.


It has a fleet of over 127 aircraft including Airbus and Boeing planes and flies to approximately 94 domestic and international destinations across four continents.


Baggage allowances include 25kg free for domestic flights or at least a 20kg allowance for other destinations, depending on the route.

Check-in can be completed on the airline’s website, via their mobile app and at the airport. 

Online Check-in:

Passengers can check-in online 48 hours to 120 minutes before scheduled departure time for both its domestic and international flights. 

Airport Check-in: 

Air India has check-in counters at the airport terminal. Passengers can. Alternatively, use self-service kiosks to check-in.

Air India offers varieties of meals and snacks (built into the airfare) to passengers on all flights. The meal cost is built into the airfare. Inflight drinks include Jal Jeera, Masala lassi or Buttermilk. Passengers in short-haul flights are served snacks or smaller meals, while indigenous travellers get non-vegetarian meals only, without alcohol.

Economy Class:

Offers a range of perks like continental and Indian dishes, washed down with complimentary alcohol, as well as in-flight entertainment, all on international flights, Its aircraft have temperature-controlled cabins. Economy class passengers can choose from having a middle, window or aisle seat in a 3 x 3 x 3 formation (long-haul flights) or 3 x 3 formation (short-haul flights).

Business Class:

Offers an exclusive and luxurious in-flight experience, from lounge access to priority check-in, delectable main course with an excellent selection of beverages in an expansive cabin. The cabins have a 2 x 3 x 2 (long-haul flights) and 2 x 2 (short-haul flights) arrangement.

First Class:

Is the most luxurious way to experience Air India, with outstanding service, excellent dining experience and 180-degree reclining pillow-soft seats.

Air India charges for carriage of sporting/music and other fragile equipment in a separate “Special Baggage” plan.

Hand Luggage: 

All passengers are allowed one piece of hand luggage with a maximum weight of 8kg. The total carry-on dimension must not exceed 115 cm. Any luggage over the stated carry-on allowance and less than 10kg will be charged according to a special tariff. Any baggage above 10kg has to be checked in.

Checked Luggage: 

Domestic flight passengers connecting from its subsidiary airline, Alliance Air, and vice versa, holding a single ticket, will also be eligible for 1pc/25Kgs - same baggage allowance for Economic Class. Others in a First Class cabin are permitted 40kg. Business Class customers get 35kg, Alliance Air flights ( except Shimla/Kullu) are entitled to 15kg, while Alliance Air flights to/from Shimla / Kullu get 10kg.  

The maximum weight limit permissible on a single piece of baggage on its international flight is dependent on the destinations of departure. You can look it up on their website.

Infant & Children:

Infants are allowed one bag (10kg), collapsible stroller/carrycot/infant car seat.
