About Cathay Pacific Airways

Cathay Pacific is Hong Kong's flag carrier and largest airline, headquartered at Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok International Airport.

Founded in 1964 by Australian Sydney de Kantzow and American Roy C. Farrell, the airline has grown from a single Douglas DC-3 carrying goods across China into one of the world's largest passenger and cargo airlines.

The airline moved its headquarters from Hong Kong's old Kai Tak airport to the newly-built island of Chek Lap Kok in 1998.

Cathay Pacific's 152-strong fleet of wide-bodied aircraft carries air freight and passengers to over 60 countries across the world. It also operates codeshare agreements and operates multiple subsidiaries, including fast-growing, low-cost carrier Dragonair, allowing access to locations within China as well as additional fleets of cargo aeroplanes.

Cathay Pacific's largest shareholder is Swire Pacific, with a 45% stake, and its second-largest is Air China, with a 29% stake.
