About Air Namibia

Air Namibia - SW is the national airline for the African nation of Namibia. It's headquartered in Windhoek, the Namibian capital. Its international hub is based at the Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport, with a smaller domestic hub based at the nearby Windhoek Eros Airport.

The origins of the airline go back to 1946, as South West Air Transport. Operations began in 1949 with a service linking Windhoek with Grootfontein. Following Namibia gaining its independence in 1991, the airline was given its current name.

The airline serves a route network of 18 destinations and 19 airports in 9 different countries in Europe and Africa. The airline has been granted permission by the US Department Of Transportation to fly to the USA, but as yet they do not operate such a service.

Negotiations to secure a regular service between Nairobi and Windhoek are currently being negotiated at a diplomatic stage.

Check-in information

Passengers can check-in on the airline’s website and at the airport.

Online Check-in:

Online check-in is right on the “Manage My Booking: tab on their website. It also allows for seat selection. Online check-in opens 24 hours and closes one-hour-30-minutes before a scheduled flight departure. The check-in menu comes in three languages (English, Portuguese and German) and also allows for printing and downloading of the boarding pass.

Airport Check-in:

Domestic and international flights can be checked in at the ticket counter inside the respective terminals. Airport check-in starts 3 hours and ends 45 minutes to take off (for domestic flights). It opens 3 hours and closes 60 minutes (for international flights).

International travellers are expected to check-in with their passport and travel documents before going through security.

Food on board

It scaled-down it's Economy Class meal on short-haul (shorter than 2-and-a-half hours) flights, opting for the snack-cum-fruit-juice alternative. Air Namibia yet offers a choice range of delectable hot meals, with wine-tasting moments before serving on Business Class and international routes. In-flight meal services on the latter pair come with alcoholic beverages such as beer, wines and vodka/whisky, as well as hot beverages such as tea and coffee.

Cabin classes

Air Namibia offers three cabin classes: Economy, Premium, and Business Class cabins. All passengers on long-haul flights get to enjoy state-of-the-art entertainment, with personal video screens rendering audiovisuals on demand.

Business Class is the most luxurious way to experience Air Namibia flights, with tables by the arm-rest and personal assistance by a friendly and professional cabin crew. Reward$ members can upgrade from Economy to Premium and Business Class cabins.

Economy class perks include access to in-flight entertainment (on an international flight) and moderately spacious cabin. Seating arrangement is 1 x 2 formation (short-haul, domestic flights) and 3 x 3 or 2 x 4 x 2 configuration (long-haul, international flights). Each seat has adjustable headrests and power supply sockets for charging personal devices. Passengers on international flights get pillows and blankets for relaxation.

You can contact the airline to place your meal order 72 hours before the departure of your flight if you have any special dietary requirements. Air Namibia special meals are Kosher, Halaal, Hindu, oriental, sea-food, diabetic, vegetarian, infant or baby food.

Baggage information

Hand Luggage:

All passengers are allowed to carry one piece of hand luggage, weighing 10kg (22lb) maximum and 56cm (l) 36cm (w) 23cm (h) in dimension. Business-class passengers are entitled to a piece of additional carry-on luggage of the aforementioned dimension. An additional small laptop bag/ handbag may be brought on as hand luggage. Anything extra will need to be checked-in.

Checked Luggage:

The weight limit applies to each piece of luggage individually. Allowances vary depending on the route and nature of travel, so, please, consult the Air Namibia website for detailed information. Economy Class travellers between Africa and Europe are allowed 1 piece, (30kg max weight limit) and a dimension of 158cm (62in) maximum, per bag. Business flights between the aforementioned routes are entitled to 2 pieces (32kg max weight limit) and the same dimension as Economy Class.

Infants & Children:

Children paying 50% of the applicable adult fare are authorised the same baggage allowance as the adult. Infants, not entitled to a seat, shall only be permitted one bag (23kg maximum) and one collapsible pram/car seat/collapsible buggy.
