Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport is located 20 km west of Abuja, the capital city of
Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory. The airport is named after the first President of
Nigeria, Nnamdi Azikiwe, and has both a domestic and an international terminal that
both share one runway.
Due to the heavy air traffic on the runway, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria
has announced that its plans to build a second runway are in the advanced stages.
The airport was built in 2000 but didn't begin operations until 2002. It is a hub for
Air Peace, Arik Air, Ibom Air and Overland Airways, and approximately 3 million
passengers pass through every year.
Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport often plays host to a number of important government
officials and visiting dignitaries as well as a huge number of Nigerian citizens flying
to the federal capital for leisure or business.
while you wait for your flight
The airport boasts a wide range of duty-free shops selling several items, including perfumes, books, arts, and crafts. If you are on a budget, you can look around. But if you have enough money to shop, you can get amazing gifts for your loved ones.
The airport was recently renovated, you can take some time to explore the interior if you have a long layover.
This may be an enjoyable activity, but you can spend your time playing the people-watching game while waiting for your flights.
