Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, located just 6 km southeast of Ethiopia’s capital city Addis Ababa, is the country’s premier gateway. Operating as the main hub for the national flag carrier, Ethiopian Airlines, the airport has enjoyed continual expansion since its inception in 1962, and now serves over 12 million domestic and international travellers.
Addis Ababa Bole International Airport is the 3rd busiest airport in Africa (after Johannesburg and Cairo) and its two modern terminals at Bole, one of the ten sub-cities of Addis Ababa, provide Domestic, Regional and International flights for travellers alongside major worldwide cargo facilities. Since 2007, ADD has also been the base for the regional airline, National Airways Ethiopia.
Originally known as Haile Selassie I International Airport, ADD was built to replace the former main hub at Lideta Airport, fondly known as the Old Airport.
A significant terminal expansion in 2019 raised the airport’s capacity to 22 million passengers per annum, confirming its popularity and status as a leading international destination.
