When it opened in 1954, Beirut-Rafic Hariri International - BEY - took the place of a much quainter local airport, Bir Hassan Airfield. At the time of opening, it offered a base with two asphalt runways and benefited from a modern terrace with a café, providing plane spotters with the ideal viewing area.
The airport was most recently renovated in July of 2019. The terminals were expanded in arrivals and departures and new customs counters were fitted. This revamp served to improve security and customer service while maintaining the contemporary aesthetic of the premises.
You will be greeted in the main terminal with cafés, lounges and a restaurant to relax in while you get ready for take-off. There are also a few shops available for browsing while you wait.
If you’ve already reached your destination in Beirut, you’ll find yourself welcomed by taxi and car rental services to see you off safely.
while you wait for your flight
Take a shower in the Cedar Lounge before your scheduled flight departs. For passengers seeking a change of outfit after a long haul, they can make use of the lounge.
The airport has two duty-free shops for arriving passengers while departing passengers can use the five-zone “duty-free shopping street”. Passengers can buy cigars at the La Casa Del Habano and use the VIP cigar lounge.
Throughout the airport are food concessions with varying schedules of operation. You can eat and drink between flights.
Regardless of what class of service passengers fly, they can make use of a lounge for their business meetings or hold calls. Passengers flying Business/First Class/Elite Status on selected airlines may have access to the Cedar Lounge. The airport offers five shopping zones for passengers seeking souvenirs, food items, perfume, and electronics.
