Birmingham International Airport

Birmingham International Airport

Birmingham Airport (BHX) can be found 7 miles southeast of Birmingham city centre inthe Borough of Solihull. Over 12 million passengers use the airport every year, making it the 7th busiest British airport.

It opened in 1939 as Elmdon Airport, only to be requisitioned later that year by the airforce. In 1946, it reopened to civilians and a number of flights to European cities were launched in 1949. The number of destinations served continued to grow and an additional terminal was built in 1961 to meet the increasing demand.

34 airlines operate passenger services to and from the airport, with the three mostpopular destinations being Dublin, Dubai and Amsterdam. Birmingham Airport - BHX is served by Birmingham International, a station on the West Coast Main Line. It provides good access to stations between Birmingham and London. The airport is linked to the station by a free AirRail link train.
