Margaret Ekpo International Airport is the biggest airport that services the city of Calabar in Nigeria. The airport is based within the centre of the city and is only a short walk from the nearest hotels and restaurants offered by the Cross River State’s capital.
The airport isn’t especially busy in comparison to most international airports, but it serves around 200,000 passengers every year whilst supporting flights to and from Lagos. Calabar, the home of CBQ, is often described as the tourism capital of Nigeria thanks to its environmentalist initiatives over the past 20 years. Thanks to its location, CBQ is the best way to quickly get to Calabar, as it’s just a short walk from the city.
Margaret Ekpo International is named after Chief Margaret Ekpo, a Nigerian politician who revolutionised politics in the country, and across Africa, by rallying support for women’s rights and ethnic solidarity.
while you wait for your flight
Although the airport has limited restaurants and shopping outlets, you can explore the surrounding areas for places to eat, drink, and shop.
While waiting for your flight, you can play some games on your phone if you have a power bank in case your battery gets drained
If you have enough time to explore the city, maybe between 5 to 6 hours, you can visit the Tinapa Resort and its extraordinary architectural edifices. You can explore the wildlife sanctuary - The Drill Rehabilitation to see the endangered African primates species, including Chimpanzees.
