Cape Town International Airport serves the city of Cape Town in South Africa. It's the second most popular South African airport in terms of passenger numbers, and the fourth busiest in the whole of Africa. It's located approximately 12 miles from the centre of the city.
Opening in 1954 to replace an old aerodrome, it originally offered just a direct flight to Britain and another British flight via Johannesburg.
In preparation for the 2010 Fifa World Cup, the airport was substantially expanded and renovated. A Central Terminal Building with a common check-in area was added.
29 airlines now operate commercial passenger services to and from Cape Town International Airport. Destinations across Africa, Europe and North America are all popular.
There is currently no rail link to the airport, but one has been proposed that will link with Cape Town's existing city rail network. A rapid bus departs every twenty minutes connecting the airport to Cape Town Civic Centre Bus Station.
while you wait for your flight
Cape Town International Airport has numerous shops to buy souvenirs and luxury items before you catch your flight. Buy locally-made fabrics, artifacts, and beads at either Africa Eco, Out of Africa, Made in SA, or Cape Farm & Wine. You can pass some time when you browse these shops.
Passengers who have a few hours to spare, they can take to the skies with a helicopter. CIVAIR has a hangar at the airport with various scenic flight options. The easiest way to have a taste of the city is to pick a flight for a panoramic view.
Stay connected to family, friends, and work at the airport. Surf the internet or update your social media accounts with selfies, and find time for a Netflix binge.
The airport lounge is an ideal place for passengers to hold on calls or have business meetings whilst waiting for your flight to depart. The Premier Lounge offers access to any passenger, regardless of the ticket class or airline. The different lounges offer Wi-Fi, premium food, snacks, showers, and alcohol.
