Düsseldorf Airport is located roughly four miles from the centre of Düsseldorf. After Frankfurt and Munich, it's the third-largest airport in Germany. Nearly 25 million commercial passengers now pass through the airport every year.
Made up of two runways and three passenger terminals, it's able to handle wide-body aircraft.
With origins in the early 20th century, it reopened for passenger flights in the late 1940s. Passenger numbers and services continued to grow and by 1992 it was used by over 12 million passengers.
It now has four terminals for general use and an executive terminal for private and corporate customers.
65 airlines now offer commercial passenger flights to and from the airport. The three most popular destinations are Palma de Mallorca, Munich and Berlin. Düsseldorf Airport – DUS has two railways stations. Dusseldorf Airport Terminal Station is the northern terminus of the S-Bahn S11 suburban line. Another station links to long-distance destinations and is connected to the terminals via SkyRail.
