Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is situated in Broward County on Florida’s Atlantic coast and serves domestic and international flights as well as those bound for Port Everglades cruise terminals. The airport sits 34 kilometres north of Miami and is the main base of Spirit Airlines.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport began life as the Merle Fogg Field in 1929, became a naval air station during World War II and eventually changed its name to honour a series of forts eponymous with Major William Lauderdale.
The modern FLL has four terminals and two runways and handles airlines including Emirates, JetBlue, Silver Airways and United Airlines.
A taxi from the airport to Fort Lauderdale takes approximately 18 minutes; to Hollywood Florida about 24 minutes; and to Miami Beach around 54 minutes.
The airport is also just a five-minute drive from Port Everglades' eleven cruise terminals, many of which go onwards to the Caribbean.

Passengers can make use of the airport’s Business Service Centers in all four terminals' departures level. The centers offer phone cards, US postage stamps, ATMs, phone chargers, copy machines, and notary services. Passengers also have access to the airport’s lounges for business meetings, hold on calls or relaxation.

Passengers can take shuttle buses or walk between Terminals 3 and 4 at the airport without the need to re-clear security again. However, passengers arriving on international flights have to collect luggage and clear customs and immigration. Passengers can also ride the garage tram from the lower level of the Palm and Hibiscus parking garages from all terminals.
