Frankfurt am Main Airport is the busiest passenger airport in Germany and the fourth busiest airport in Europe. Located seven miles south-west of central Frankfurt, over 60million passengers now pass through every year.
The airport has a long history, stretching back to the earliest decades of the 20th century. The first airport served as a base of Zepellins and was used by the Allied forces in the airlifts to blockaded West Berlin in the late 1940s.
Frankfurt Airport-FRA became a major international hub in 1958 and has grown steadily over the decades since to become the world's 13th busiest airport.
92 different passenger airlines operate to and from the airport, with Lufthansa accounting for the majority of passengers. The three most popular destinations are Berlin-Tegel, Hamburg and London Heathrow.
The airport is well served by transport links. It has two train stations, one for local and regional trains, the other for long-distance destinations.
while you wait for your flight
The airport has shower facilities for a fee in Terminals 1 and 2, offering towels, shower gels, and hair dryers to passengers. The showers open daily from 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM.
