Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport is the main airport serving the city of Kano, the capital of the Nigerian state of the same name. The heart of the city is just a few kilometres from the airport, meaning that getting to where you need to be won’t be a problem.
The airport itself serves both international and domestic flights, going to countries such as Sudan, Saudi Arabia and more, in addition to providing regular flights to Lagos. This has helped the airport to build up its passenger count, which is currently around 400,000 passengers per year, up from 300,000 in 2005.
KAN was built in 1922 and is named after Aminu Kano, a Nigerian politician who opposed British rule in the time of the British Empire. Before Nigerian independence, it was used as a military airfield, but in the years since has grown to prominence as one of the largest airports in the country.
