For many travellers, the most convenient way to reach Miami is to fly into Miami International Airport (MIA), 10 miles northwest of the centre.
One of the busiest airports in the continental United States, Miami International is also known by the name Wilcox Field.
The airport boasts over 45 million visitors a year and is the primary airport for Miami as well as Florida as a whole.
The airport also acts as the primary gateway for visitors from Latin America, due to the city's Latin heritage and strategic location.
The airport is a major hub for American Airlines and receives flights from major carriers like Air France, British Airways and Qatar Airways.
You can get to the city from Miami International via the Metrorail, Greyhound bus, Tri-Rail commuter network, or the Metrobus network. Alongside the range of car rental agencies in the airport itself, you have a wealth of options for getting into the city in no time at all.

You can turn your layover into an art tour and go round soaking in all the Instagram-worthy murals scattered throughout the airport like the famous "Peace & Love flower wall located at Terminal D.
Miami is a bustling city, and you will need at least five hours to enjoy some of Miami's sights. Check out some museums in downtown or head to the waters at South Beach. You can also indulge in some of Miami's hip restaurants and bars and take in the street art.
MIA has a wide variety of stores where you can shop for necessities and luxury items. You can pick up Miami-inspired gifts and souvenirs at the Miami Marlins, Miami Gifts To Go, or Miami Heat Store. You'll also find books, sunglasses, accessories, cigars, liquor, and other items.
