Port Harcourt International Airport is located in Omagwa, a small suburb in the capital
city of Nigeria's Rivers State, Port Harcourt. The airport operates both domestic and
international flights from two terminals, one of which was opened recently in October
2018 with the capacity to hold seven million passengers annually.
The older terminal at Port Harcourt International Aiport used to handle both domestic
and international passengers prior to the construction of the new terminal, but it is
currently under renovation so that it can host commercial and domestic aircraft
operations.
Port Harcourt International Airport was founded in the 1980s and is the third-busiest
airport in Nigeria by passenger traffic. In 2015, the airport served 1,223,807 passengers
and due to its location in the country's oil and gas hub, it plays an important role in
Nigerian economic development.
