Sharm El Sheikh International Airport is the third busiest airport in Egypt, after Hurghada International Airport and Cairo International Airport.
The airport was opened on 14 May 1968, originally as an Israeli Air Force base. It became a public airport in 1979.
The airport has two terminals. The largest, Terminal 1, was opened on 23 May 2007, and at 460,000 square feet, it has around 5 million passengers per year.
Terminal 2 is the site of the original airport building and was actually the first terminal to be opened. Modernised in 2004, it is set to be expanded further.
With the two terminals combined, the airport has a current capacity of 9 million per passengers year, however, work is underway to increase this to 20 million.
Famed for its marine life, Sharm El Sheikh attracts hordes of divers every year. It's also a popular destination for winter sun-seekers with an abundance of resorts to choose from.

There are two lounges at the airport that can be accessed by purchasing a lounge pass or through a lounge membership program. One can be found at Terminal 1, Airside, 2nd Floor, and the other at Terminal 2, Landside. The walk-in rate is US$ 35 per person for 4 hours.
There are several restaurants and cafes at the airport that serve both local and international food. The eateries can be found mostly in Terminal 1.
Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport has a wide variety of duty-free shops. Passengers can buy perfumes, cosmetics, chocolate, jewelry, bags, and sweets, among other things. The stores range from superstores, gifts and crafts shops to branded clothing outlets.

Inter Terminal Transportation: There is no transport between terminals, and passengers can easily walk across the terminals.
