Last year’s Easter break was supposed to be like every other holiday for me; packed with meetings, deliverables, strategy sessions, and of course, a healthy dose of guilt if I was not being “productive.” That has been my rhythm for as long as I can remember. I do not mean to sound dramatic, but I had built a personality around being busy. My calendar was always full. My phone is constantly buzzing. If you asked me what my idea of rest was, I would probably have said, “Finishing my to-do list early.”
So, imagine my surprise when my husband announced an “emergency business trip” and told me I had to accompany him. At first, I protested. I had work. I had deadlines. I had a board presentation to prepare for. But he played the worried husband card so well that I decided to indulge him… just this once. I packed my laptop and a few outfits, fully ready to work remotely during whatever “emergency” this was.
We arrived at the airport and, after a few confusing exchanges and some “flight delay” drama, I found myself in a car heading to a luxury beach resort. I gave him a long, suspicious stare. He just smiled and said, “Well, we are already here. Might as well enjoy it.”
I laughed, but something inside me cracked. In the most beautiful way.
For the first time in what felt like forever, I slowed down. The ocean breeze, the stillness of the mornings, the quiet moments with no agenda; it all felt foreign but deeply necessary. That Easter escape became more than a vacation. It became a reset. I was finally reminded that rest is not laziness. That pausing does not mean I’m falling behind. That balance is not a luxury. It is essential.
Since then, I have taken work-life balance more seriously. And one of the first things I promised myself was to do good on a plan I had postponed for far too long: a ladies’ staycation. My friends and I had been talking about it for years. “Let us take a weekend off, just us girls, somewhere nice.” But like many great ideas, it never left the group chat. There was always one reason or another: schedules, logistics, budgets, life. But not this time.
This time, I took the lead. I reached out to everyone, dusted off the plan, and made it real. And we are doing it right here in Nigeria. Because honestly, it is not every time one needs to travel abroad. There are so many hidden gems in this country: beach resorts, serene cabins, and luxury apartments tucked away in quiet corners. Why fly across the world when paradise is just a few hours away?
And if you are wondering how I managed to organise everything without losing my mind, let me tell you: TravelTank made it easy. They are more than just a travel platform; they are the plug. From helping us pick the perfect destination to booking our stay, curating experiences, and handling all the behind-the-scenes work, they made planning feel like part of the fun.
Now, I am not just working hard. I am resting better, living fully, and showing my friends that we deserve this too. All it took was one sneaky little Easter plot and the right travel partner to open the door to a softer, more balanced life.
So, here is to more escapes, more sisterhood, and more local magic. Because rest is not something you earn after burnout. It is something you make space for; intentionally, consistently, and joyfully.
