Reading Time: 4 minutes

I recently had the opportunity to attend the NATOP AGM meeting in Ekiti State, and it turned out to be more than just a typical meeting. The agenda was to discuss business matters and explore the natural wonders and cultural treasures of this beautiful Nigerian state. In this write-up, I will be taking you on a journey through the wonders of Ekiti where I will be revealing its enchanting landscapes, warm springs, and abundant agricultural potential.

Day 1: The Road to Ekiti

Our adventure began at Ikeja City Mall, Lagos, where we assembled before embarking on our road trip to Ekiti. The journey took us about 6 hours, with a few stops along the way, making it an ideal opportunity to witness the diverse scenery of Nigeria. Though Ekiti does have an airport, it was not operational at the time, making road transport the primary means of reaching this captivating destination. Our accommodation at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) Inn, was comfortable and equipped with all the necessary amenities.

Day 2: NAPTOP AGM Meeting and Conference

On the second day, we held the NAPTOP AGM meeting, where coordinators from different states presented their yearly reports. Following the meeting, we delved into a conference featuring guest speakers, including representatives from the Ekiti state government, the founder of AKWAABA African Travel Market, and the Director-General of NIHOTOUR. The focus was on various aspects of tourism, such as agro-tourism, transportation, and wildlife conservation, amongst others. The presence of prominent figures, such as the Country Head of Treepz Nigeria and the Project Manager of Lekki Conservation Centre, enriched the discussions. Finally, we were addressed by the Vice-chancellor of Afe Babalola University.

Day 3: Unraveling the Wonders of Ekiti

This day was reserved for exploration, and we made the most of it. Our first stop was the Afe Babalola University, where we toured the exceptional hospital with top-class amenities and equipments. The university is entirely self-sufficient, producing all the consumables it needs within its vast farmlands. From poundo yam to carbonated drinks, everything was locally sourced and processed.

Next, we journeyed to the fascinating Ikogosi Warm Spring in Erijiyan. Legend has it that two wives of a man who were at odds and rivalry with each other turned into warm and cold springs, respectively while the husband turned into the hills surrounding the springs. The most astonishing aspect of this natural wonder is that the warm and cold waters flow side by side without ever mixing. It’s a truly awe-inspiring sight, one that words alone cannot do justice.

I highly recommend staying at the resort within the vicinity to fully experience the enchantment of the Ikogosi Warm Springs. The resort offers a range of amenities, including a swimming pool, gym, and restaurant. Additionally, visitors can engage in activities like hiking, camping, photoshoots and swimming.

Day 4: Homeward Bound

Our last day in Ekiti marked the return journey to Lagos. We had a short visit, so we couldn’t explore all of Ekiti’s attractions. However, there are many other alluring places worth discovering. Some of these include Arinta Waterfalls, Adekunle Fajuyi Park, Ero Water Dam, and several stunning hills, mountains, and waterfalls. To fully appreciate the wonders of Ekiti; its beauty and diversity, a longer tour spanning at least three days is advisable.

Ekiti State proved to be a captivating destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts alike. Its abundant agricultural resources and stunning landscapes make it a place of untapped potential. This state has a lot to offer. There are the mysterious Ikogosi Warm Springs. Additionally, you’ll find the vibrant farmlands of Afe Babalola University. Ekiti is undoubtedly the place to visit if you’re looking to relax. It offers a chance to connect with nature and bask in the beauty of God’s creation. I can’t wait to return and delve deeper into the treasures this remarkable state has to offer.
