Why Ireland should be on your travel bucket list

Blackrock Castle, Ireland.

Blackrock Castle, Ireland.

While the Republic of Ireland is located just across the Irish Sea from Great Britain, it has a distinct culture and heritage of its own. Historically, Ireland had a strong Gaelic culture, much of which it still retains to this day. In fact, the country remains one of six original Celtic nations, along with Brittany, Cornwall, Scotland, Wales and the Isle of Man.
The country is best known for its glorious countryside, literary heritage and, of course, Guinness - a dark Irish stout which is exported around the world. When visiting the Republic of Ireland, there are many places to explore, each of which will offer a very different experience of the wonderful island. The capital, Dublin, is home to the Guinness Storehouse, along with other sights including Phoenix Park, Ha'penny Bridge and Trinity College - home of the Book of Kells. Elsewhere, Cork in the south-west is the second-largest city and was the European Capital of Culture in 2005. Stunning natural attractions include the Cliffs of Moher, Killarney National Park and the Ring of Kerry - a stunningly scenic drive in County Kerry.
