With its temperate climate, Rwanda, known as The Land of a Thousand Hills, is situated in the Great Rift Valley on the African mainland.
This landlocked country is well known for its beautiful lakes, Mount Karisimbi and unique wildlife, which includes the mountain gorilla. When visiting Rwanda, you will find that dance and music plays an important role in ceremonies, festivals and social gatherings. There's a national dance known as Intore, which is a mixture of ballet (performed by women), the dance of heroes (performed by men) and drums. Take a day to explore the Volcanoes National Park or go chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park. There are many forests, lakes and fabulous landscapes in Rwanda for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation. Local food comprises of plantains, pulses, cassava, beans, sweet potatoes and bananas, although rest assured, holidaymakers are well catered for too. If you enjoy traditional crafts and arts, there are plenty of woven baskets and bowls to take home as a souvenir.
