A warm and welcoming country, Venezuela is one of the most urbanised countries in America. It is home to both built-up cities and undisturbed wildlife.
Venezuela has a rich and diverse culture inspired by both indigenous and Spanish customs. In 1522, Venezuela was colonised by Spain. The indigenous people of Venezuela fought this colonisation and, in 1821, the country won its independence. The culture of Venezuela today is very much focused on family values and equality. Venezuela is home to diverse natural attractions including the beautiful Angel Falls and the Ávila National Park. Venezuela consists of a landmass and multiple islands in the Caribbean sea. Many people enjoy visiting the islands off Venezuela to explore their lagoons, reefs and stunning beaches. The largest city in Venezuela, and its capital, is Caracas. Simón Bolíva, who led Venezuela towards independence, is buried at the National Pantheon of Venezuela which is located in Caracas.
