Ethiopian Airlines is a major state-owned airline operating both international and domestic passenger flights and cargo services.
It is the biggest airline in Africa, in terms of the number of passengers, fleet and total annual revenue combined.
It was founded on 21st December 1945 and is owned by the Ethiopian Government. The airline's head office is at Bole International Airport in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa.
In 2019, Ethiopian Airlines transported 12.10 million passengers and carried 432 thousand tonnes of cargo.
It boasts a fleet of 121 aircraft, made up predominantly of Boeing and Airbus models and it also owns 26 De Havilland Dash 8-400s.
Passengers can choose from 20 domestic routes and a large variety of international routes.
The airline offers two ticket types - Cloud Nine (the business class option) and Economy. All passengers receive complimentary food and refreshments on-board all Ethiopian Airlines routes.

Online Check-in:
You can check-in online from 36 up to 2 hours before departure, and print or download your boarding pass.
Airport Check-in:
All check-in counters are open 3 hours before departure and closed 1 hour before departure. Business Class passengers have access to dedicated priority check-in desks.
Passengers can also use the kiosk check-in, which is considered the fastest way for airport check-in. Locate a kiosk self-service terminal at the airport and select the Ethiopian airline tab, find your bookings, confirm you are not carrying harmful contents in your baggage, check-in and choose available seats on the flight. Then the kiosk will print and issue your boarding pass.
Note: Make sure there is a 2D barcode on your boarding pass.
Food and drinks mainly depend on the day's route or time, and you can either have a hot meal, a hot/cold snack, or light refreshment. Economy class passengers enjoy a three-course meal and any choice of drink. Passengers flying the cloud nine (Business Class) enjoy a more personalized menu where you get to choose from the 'a la carte' menu onboard. The airline also offers special meals, but passengers have to book ahead.
The renowned airline offers two cabin classes: Economy class and the Cloud Nine Class (Business Class).
Business Class:
As the name implies, the Cloud 9 Class offers premium services with Ethiopian hospitality for passengers flying medium and long-haul flights. The cabin class features specially designed sleeper seats, a top-notch in-flight entertainment system with on-demand audio and video services. The Cloud 9 passengers enjoy various delicious complimentary meals with bar service onboard. They also have access to the business class lounges at Heathrow T3, and DAA Lounge in Dublin.
Economy Class:
Passengers flying Economy Class enjoy comfortable seats with popular inflight entertainment. The airline serves a wide selection of complimentary meals, from light refreshments to full-course hot meals on all flights, with a variety of drinks and beverages. If you intend to travel with kids, there are healthy meals and drinks set aside for children to make their journey memorable onboard. Hand Luggage:
As the new policy due to COVID 19, Carry on baggage (hand luggage) will not be allowed on board. Laptops, medicine, lady purse, and baby essentials only shall be permitted onboard. All handbags are to be allowed as checked-in bags from now on.
The carry-on allowance for business class is 2 pieces, each with a maximum weight of 7kg. Economy Class passengers are allowed one piece with a maximum weight of 7kg.
Checked Luggage:
The maximum weight per single bag for business class is 32kg, and passengers can carry up to two pieces. Economy Class passengers can carry up to 23 kg - one piece for regional flights, and two pieces for international flights. ShebaMiles Gold, ShebaMiles Silver, and Star Gold are allowed to carry up to 3 pieces of baggage on long-haul flights.
Infants & Children:
Infants are allowed one checked bag not weighing more than (23kg) and one collapsible or pushchair.
