Your guide to Barcelona

Barcelona is Spain's second-largest city after Madrid. The heartbeat of Catalonia, famous for the best of Gaudi's masterpieces and Barcelona Football Club. The city has a very rich historical importance, with a handful of artefacts from medieval days. Barcelona has crowded tourist centres; most natives are bilingual in Catalan and Spanish.

It is chic and quaint. It has varieties; elaborate facades, outdoor markets, restaurants, cafes, shops, museums, street art, and churches. There are great places to relax, walk and enjoy the great nightlife. From Ciutat Vella (meaning old neighbourhood) district to the lush La Rambla street, Barcelona spreads before the tourist's eye with lots of things to see and do.

The European city is directly on the northeastern Mediterranean coast. Short, dry summerand humid, wet winter, characterises the Barcelona climate. You may probably want to avoid the jet-set month of August. The city is full of great varieties - everything you'd look out for in an urban hideaway. Beaches, great weather, beautiful parks, fantastic food, decent transit, it's like a fairy tale land you don't want to miss.
